Part Description: The door switch acts as a safety switch that indicates and halts operation when the door is open or when a belt is broken on some units.
Failure Symptoms: Dryer / Washer will not start.
Testing: Most units that use a lid/door switch will make an audible clicking noise when the switch activates. If after starting your unit, you do not hear the switch clicking to lock the door, it's likely defective. To confirm, use a multimeter to check for continuity. If there's no continuity, replace the switch. If your dryer uses a belt switch, you should listen for a humming noise after starting the dryer. If there is no humming check the belt switch for continuity. If no continuity, the switch should be replaced.
Bonus Tip: Overloading the dryer is a common cause of broken dryer parts. Learn your dryer's max capacity to get the best longevity out of it.
