Repair Skill Level: 2 | Beginner to Moderate
Minimal disassembly (if any) and some basic tools may be needed.
Part Description: The condenser fan motor helps to remove heat from the condenser coils by circulating air though them and evaporating water in the defrost drain pan.
Failure Symptoms: The refrigerator runs too long; Refrigerator not cooling properly.
Testing: Unplug the unit and check the fan for obstructions caught in the blade path. Try turning the fan motor blade by hand. If it does not spin freely, replace the condenser fan motor. If there are no obstructions and the blade spins freely, disconnect the fan motor and use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If there's no continuity, replace the motor.
Bonus Tip: Keep your refrigerator operating at it's best by taking time to clean the condenser coils. It's typically recommended to clean the coils 1-2 times each year. Owners of shedding pets may need to clean them even more frequently. You can use specialty tools for this, or you can brush-out/vacuum over and under the coils.
